Along the Coast

coast06.jpg

October 2004 - Laurie and I decided to get away for a long weekend and we chose Northern California as the destination since neither of us had been there. After landing at SFO we started our journey by driving up the coast and then worked our way inland for to see some redwoods and to visit Napa Valley. I won't mention the plane ride out or the effects of the curvey roads on Laurie. ;-)

The Mighty Redwoods

October 2004 - Just north of Garberville the Avenue of Giants begins. This is a scenic road that parallels Hwy 101 for about 30 miles and winds through the redwoods practically the whole way. It was well worth the trip. We found ourselves pulling over quite often to take pictures of the mammoth trees.

Napa Valley

October 2004 - The last leg of our long weekend was a day in Napa Valley. Afterseeing the redwoods we stayed the night in Aurora Park's cottages in Calistoga. The small town of Calistoga was great, it has lots to offer. We began from there the next morning and after hitting some of the local wineries we headed south as Laurie got more and more drunk. Although I've been to Napa Valley before, this was definitely a different experience and this time I actually found some wines that I liked too.
